Driver Sylvain Filion sent Speedy Dominic A for the front and held firm to the finish to take the $34,000 Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (Nov. 20).

Leaving from the outermost post in the field scratched down to five, Speedy Dominic A cleared control to a :27.4 first quarter and faced no challenge to a :56.1 half. With 8-5 favourite Wheels On Fire revving first over from last to the final turn, Filion hit the accelerator on Speedy Dominic A to click three-quarters in 1:23.4 and turned for home on the afterburners. Speedy Dominic A maintained command through the stretch sprint as Uhtred attempted to reel in the leader off the pocket ride, but the seven-year-old American Ideal gelding dug in to keep a head in front at the beam in 1:50.3. Wheels On Fire finished third and Beyond Better took fourth.

Owned by MT Stables Ontario Inc., Speedy Dominic A won his seventh race from 26 starts this season and his 17th from 87 overall, pushing his earnings to $153,758. Ben Baillargeon trains the $15.60 winner.
