The post position draw for this Saturday’s (June 16) $1 million Pepsi North America Cup took place today during a noontime luncheon at Woodbine Mohawk Park in Campbellville, Ont.
Woodbine Entertainment streamed the draw, which featured Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Connor Carrick performing the celebrity drawmaster duties.
Three ‘Cup’ eliminations took place at Mohawk this past weekend, and the connections of the elim victors (Lather Up, Stay Hungry, Wes Delight) earned the right to choose their respective posts for this Saturday’s lucrative final. For replays and complete analysis of the Cup elims, click here.
The connections of Wes Delight won the draw to select their charge’s post first, and subsequently chose Post 3. After having split horses in the final strides, Wes Delight edged to the top and captured his Cup elim in 1:50.2.
The connections of Stay Hungry then picked their post for the final second, and selected Post 2. Stay Hungry launched off cover in the stretch and powered past late leader and favourite Done Well to hand him the first loss in his career, as he won his Cup elim in 1:50.
The connections of Lather Up then chose their starting spot third, and opted for Post 4. Lather Up, a colt by Im Gorgeous, dashed through the inside when leaders Lost In Time and Courtly Choice hooked wheels into the stretch and sprinted to a 1:49.2 victory in his elim.
